- Park Maya Extreme (Dschungel-Themenbereich)

Simworx has announced that they are providing an Immersive Tunnel attraction to be installed as part of the first phase of the new Amikoo Resort Destination Theme Park in Mexico. This will be for the “Piratas de Bacalar” attraction, themed around the area’s historical pirates, as riders will help defend the San Felipe Bacalar Fort. According to the press release this will be a new version of Simworx Immersive Tunnel attraction, using a single 60-seat 3DOF motion base themed as a giant pirate galleon. (Other versions use a 30-seat motion base)

Adding to the atmosphere, a real water basin will surround the galleon at all times, which also allows for other unique special effects to be added to the experience, including wind, water spray and more. (note: concept artwork also shows real cannonball splash like effects in the water as well as real tenticle looking things rising out of the water around the boat as well.) “Amikoo has also opted for a hybrid-type, 7m high Immersive Tunnel screen with the whole system being a 4K audio visual solution.“

Simworx has also brought Jora Vision onto the job as well for the themeing elements in the attraction, which is described as a “standalone attraction within the resort” and part of an overall 50 minute long experience, involving a series of pre-show experiences leading up to the main ride element. The attraction building will also house a restaurant and retail outlets as well, and is expected to be installed by March 2019, as part of Amokoo’s first phase build out which is expected between the end of 2018 to March 2019.

Attraction design for Amikoo Mexico

Jora Vision designs walk-through, pirate-themed attraction for Mexico’s Amikoo theme park

Jora Vision, a leading design and production company of themed attractions, is currently designing an indoor pirates-themed experience for Amikoo theme park adjacent to Cancún, Mexico, Latin America’s largest leisure development.

The 5,000-square-meter attraction, named Los Piratas de Bacalar, will be part of the retail, dining and entertainment district of the Amikoo theme park complex, and will be developed as a stand-alone experience. Los Piratas de Bacalar will feature a 50-minute walk-through attraction, a fully-themed buffet restaurant and a merchandise shop, all based on the rich pirating history of the Mexican Riviera Maya. The real fortress of Bacalar, Fuerte de San Felipe, built by the Spanish Navy in 18th Century, served as the inspiration for the multi-million dollar attraction.

The high-capacity walk-through attraction consists of several rooms featuring live actors, animatronics, special effects and a ride system. All of this is based on real-life events, during which pirates attacked several ships and towns build by the Spanish and Mexican locals during the 18th Century. The mayan culture has an important role in the story of the experience as well. Guests of the attraction step back 300 years in time and discover the fortress in full operation. They will be guided in groups of 60 persons through rooms of the fortress, where they will meet Capitán Nicolas Pacheco and his crew to be prepared for a spectacular pirate battle on the Caribbean Sea. The walk-through’s climax features a new generation Immersive Tunnel developed by ride specialist Simworx, featuring a 60-seater vehicle themed as a ship, as well as state of art projection technology. Besides maritime pirate battles, visitors will face a mythical sea monster named Cipactli. All this results in an action-packed cinematic experience containing a great deal of special effects.

For the complex’s dining experience, designers looked to the city of Campeche and its pirating history. This bustling town will be brought to life not only by the décor, which features spectacular effects and animatronics, but also by the food, which too has links to history. Multiple times a day, the restaurant will be “under attack” by the Spanish Navy! The buffet restaurant and walk-through attraction will be ticketed within Amikoo’s Downtown district as either a combined or two separate experiences.

“Currently, Jora Vision is in the detailed design stage of the project, developing not only theming design, but also coordinating other disciplines such as lighting, audio, video hardware and content, special effects and operations,” explains Robin van der Want, Project Development Director at Jora Vision.

Jora Vision approached Los Piratas de Bacalar in a way that contrasts with the development of most theme park attractions. “Theme park attractions are designed in the context of a theme park; this type of attraction has to stand on its own”, explains van der Want. “Guests pay separately, meaning they expect value for their money in terms of time. A short experience will result in unsatisfied guests. Therefore, attractions found in theme parks, such as 4D theaters, roller coasters, or flying theaters can not simply be implemented without adding pre-shows, exhibits or other types of experiences to increase length and add experience value. In Los Piratas de Bacalar, which has an Immersive Tunnel show at the end, we have integrated 8 pre-shows, all telling a single coherent story to create an immersive experience”.

Los Pirates de Bacalar will be the first attraction of its kind, combining a cultural walk-through attraction, an Immersive Tunnel and shows with live actors. The attraction is scheduled to open in 2019.

HUSS[SUP]®[/SUP] announces first project of Explorer attraction for new Amikoo resort in Mexico

Huss Park Attractions GmbH has announced that the first project of its Explorer film based attraction will open at Cancun’s Riviera Maya in Mexico in 2019 at the new Amikoo Resort Destination Theme Park, currently being developed and scheduled to open next year.

The Amikoo attraction will take visitors on a spectacular deep sea exploration around the seas of Mexico. The passengers are part of an expedition into the deep oceans of Mexico to discover the beautiful sea life.

Utilizing cutting-edge technology the Explorer provides the sensation of being immersed under the ocean. Unrestricted views towards a 360° screen supporting large-format images in combination with suitable sound effects, scents which pervade the ambience and the descending/ascending movement of the rider carrier will all combine to create an unprecedented ride experience.

A themed boarding area will initially engage visitors in the adventure. Guests will enter the 70-seat gondola, themed as a submarine, from a docking bay before it sinks into the deep abyss.

The gondola will move down a central, steel tower shaft into a totally enclosed, 360° projection scene, in this case as if submerging under the water, taking riders into an exciting and fascinating underwater world of coral reefs and marine life.

The Amikoo Explorer offers a perfect mix of entertainment and education, featuring messages to raise awareness about the care of the planet and an emphasis on the oceans and bio-diversity.

The ride is accessible for guests with disabilities and wheelchair users. It is suitable for all ages and will provide the venue with a highly flexible attraction that, if required, can be refreshed very easily with a change of media content for a whole new experience.

Commenting on the announcement, HUSS[SUP]®[/SUP] CEO Mirko J. Schulze said: “We are thrilled to be able to announce our first Explorer project and are especially happy that it will be installed in such a significant new development. The attraction will provide guests of the Amikoo resort with a truly immersive and breathtaking experience which will take them into another world and we are very much looking forward to its opening. I’m confident it will be a highly successful element of this new destination.”

With a wide, almost unlimited choice of experiences available, Explorer immerses riders in the worlds of science, fantasy, sports, technology or adventure. It is a unique attraction based on proven and reliable technologies, the gondola being attached to a steel tower shaft based on the proven HUSS[SUP]®[/SUP] Sky Tower design, moving up or down the shaft to the film projection level.

Amikoo Theme Park for Riviera Maya officially approved for construction
By Riviera Maya News on November 22, 2018

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Amikoo Park, which is the Maya cosmology themed park announced to replace the DreamWorks project for Riviera Maya, has officially been approved for construction.

The park, which has been granted all the necessary permits, can now move forward with its first construction phase.

In September of 2017, the Maya-themed park was announced by Mexico’s president Enrique Peña Nieto and businessman Carlos Peralta. They presented Amikoo Amusement Park and Resort project explaining that the park is to be constructed by 100 percent Mexican funding in the order of $840 USD from Grupo IUSA.

In a statement, it is explained that the park will be constructed in two phases, the first being an area of 120 hectares which will include a 320-room hotel with a Maya archaeological and anthropology museum, as well as commercial and gastronomic areas.

Amikoo Park contemplates the start-up of operations toward the end of 2019 with the first phase scheduled for the end of 2019 and the second phase between 2020 and 2021, which, when complete, will include four grand Mayan worlds with more than 40 attractions, shows and restaurants.

The Amikoo park was originally set to be a Dreamworks theme park, however, local authorities and investors changed the theme to remain competitive with Peña Nieto saying it’s important to remain high in competition when it comes to tourism, therefore, the atmosphere and characters of the DreamWorks Studios was transformed into a “themed destination, amusement park and resort” completely dedicated to Maya cosmogony.

The new park is estimated to attract approximately 4.5 million visitors annually. Amikoo is Mayan for friend. The new park will generate more than 9,000 jobs for the region.
