After last week’s Diagon Alley post many of our readers tweeted and emailed us (info@CentralFloridaTop5.com) with questions regarding the information I’ve gathered. By far the most asked about topic was the interactive wands. Now we’re calling them interactive wands because the official named for the wand experience has yet to be announced, in fact rumors say that talks between Universal and WB are ongoing even as the opening looms.
The 13 new interactive wands won’t fully replace the non-interactive wands but the smaller shops, such as Owl Post, will sell the interactive wands exclusively. The non-interactive character wands and collectible wands will still be sold in the larger retail locations and in the non-theme park based Universal Studios retail outlets.
Featuring a gyroscope similar to the MEMS found in iPhones the new interactive wands will allow guests to use actual spells directly from the books to have featured locations come alive. At least 19 different spells have already been fleshed out for the more than two dozen different wand experiences found throughout both Wizard World locations. Each of the wand
experiences are marked with a small round medallion in the ground. Guests must stand directly on or just behind the medallion for the ‘magic’ to happen. The entire system uses a Kinect hybrid system that uses a number of monitoring tools. The wands themselves may also have RFID tags in them, guest tracking is a must in today’s theme park industry.
To help cut the lines down guests will get one try at the experience, if they don’t do the right spell then no ‘magic’ will happen and they will have to go to the end of the line to try again or move on to a new window. Expect wand training classes to be offered in a future phase when a certain Ministry moves in.

Most of the spells can be used in multiple locations. The Wingardium Leviosa spell will be used in both Spintwitches, where the spell will have a quaffle ball float out of its box, and at Scribbulus, where a quill will rise from its display and hover in midair. Some of the shops, like Scribbulus, will host numerous wand experience locations. Along with the Wingardium Leviosa window Scribbulus will also feature a piece of paper that the Aparecuim spell can be used to reveal a special hidden message, similar to the effect installed in the new Haunted Mansion queue.
Not all the wand experiences are in windows. The Carkitt Market wand experience is located near its restrooms. Guests will overhear WWN radio station from an open window nearby as they wait to make it rain from an umbrella-shaped light fixture. Another non-window based wand experience is the Mermaid Water Fountain which will shoot water out when guests use the Agumenti spell.
The two-story Bowman Blacksmith open façade includes two wand experiences. One will feature a self-setting house-elf armor set while the other is a much simpler effect in which coal near the hearth will glow when the correct spell is used.
Diagon Alley will feature many interactive facades, most with small gags being revealed, as is the case with the trolls in tutus in the Pilliwinkle’s Playthings window. Other facades will even include features to be revealed with in-correct spells. The Trackleshanks door will chuckle at guests who use the wrong spell, the correct spell won’t open the door but at least those guests don’t get laughed at.

Knockturn Alley while small will feature plenty of interactive elements within it. One wand experience within KA will be above guests, like in all of Diagon Alley height is used to its utmost advantage throughout Knockturn Alley.
Some facades in Knockturn Alley will feature animated windows but no wand experiences. Markus Scarr’s tattoo shop will feature animated tattoos but no way for guests to interact with them.
A group of very rude little heads in the window of Noggin and Bonce will be silenced with the correct spell while a counter spell will release them from their silence. Dystyl Phaeleanges Purveyor of Fine Bones and Tusks window will feature a Victorian style slide projector, the correct spell will cause the troll skeleton being projected to mimic the movements of the guests.

One of the most impressive wand experiences shared with us is that of Tallow & Hemp Toxic Tapers candle shop. Guests will be able to inflict one of three jinx on a canary in the window.
Hogsmeade is getting plenty new interactive elements itself. Pippin’s Potions will feature a water filled cauldron that guests will use the ‘Arresto Momento’ spell from stopping before it spills on them, much to the amusement of the pixies.
The newly revealed Madam Puddifoot’s façade will feature cakes in the window that guests will be able to animate using the correct spell with yet another spell stopping the animation.

While Tales of the Beedle the Bard will be a small show, similar to Enchanted Tales with Belle, over at Diagon Alley Tomes & Scrolls in Hogsmeade will feature the book in its window, guests will use a specific spell to reveal its never-ending page.
At least 8 wand experiences will be installed in Hogsmeade, almost all being outside in the wider walkways of the cramped land. Diagon Alley will feature nearly one and half times as many, some being above guests and others being inside stores, though the majority are in public thoroughfares as well.

There have been some rumors of the wand experience coming online after the initial opening of Diagon Alley, latest I’ve heard is that Universal is planning on opening together though some of the experiences may open up afterwards.
Well that’s enough for today. As always if you have questions, news or rumors make sure to email or DM us.

Ein Interview mit Universal Creative mit noch mehr Szenen

Presseartikel:
Orlando Sentinel:

The signature ride at Universal Orlando's new Diagon Alley will have big vehicles that can whisk 12 people through a Harry Potter story featuring villains, dragons and goblins, a Universal executive said Monday.

One goal for the new Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts ride was to allow "the whole family to be able to experience this," said Thierry Coup, senior vice president of Universal Creative Studios.

The ride is the centerpiece of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Diagon Alley, scheduled to open at the Universal Studios theme park this summer.

One way to involve larger groups or families, Coup said, was to increase the capacity of the vehicles. Escape from Gringotts cars will hold 12 passengers, as opposed to the four people who can ride on an "enchanted bench" in Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, the ride that opened in 2010 with the original Wizarding World at Universal's Islands of Adventure.

"We wanted the level of thrills that Forbidden Journey has but maybe make it more visual than physical in some ways, trying to strike the right balance," Coup said. New projector technology and a nearly 360-degree screen will help immerse riders in the story at one point, he said.

"The time you spend in each scene with the characters is greater than we've been able to achieve in any ride," Coup said. "It's really going to give you the sense of being there with your favorite characters."
The height requirement for the Gringotts ride is expected to be 42 inches, Coup said. That's 6 inches shorter than Forbidden Journey.

Universal isn't calling the new ride a roller coaster.

"We've created an entirely new type of ride that propels guests into the story like never before," said Mark Woodbury, president of Universal Creative.

An opening date for the new Wizarding World has not been announced. When complete, Universal Orlando's Potter offerings will be in both of its Orlando theme parks, connected by the Hogwarts Express train.

The story for the Escape from Gringotts ride is set in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," the seventh book in the series by author J.K. Rowling.

The outside of the attraction will be topped by a 60-foot-tall, fire-breathing dragon figure.

Inside, the attraction's queue will include a stretch in the marble lobby of Gringotts. Guests, according to the story, will be there to open an account at the bank. Their journey will go many miles below London toward the institution's vaults, Coup said. Riders will encounter Death Eater Bellatrix Lestrange and Lord Voldemort.

"The guests will find themselves transported smack in the middle of the action when Ron, Harry and Hermoine break into the bank," Coup said.

The original Potter land, now called Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Hogsmeade, set a high standard, said Dennis Spiegel, president of the International Theme Park Services trade group.

Visitors are expecting a higher level of effects and animatronics, Spiegel said.

"If they deliver the experience that they design, I think you're going to see an incredible increase in attendance at the front gate again," Spiegel said. Islands of Adventure attendance rose more than 30 percent in the first year after Wizarding World opened.

In the Potterverse, Gringotts is a goblin-owned bank for wizards. It was portrayed in rollicking fashion in the films, which have grossed more than $7.7 billion at the box office worldwide. Fans have clamored for a Gringotts ride for years, Coup said.

"It's definitely something that we knew that everybody wanted," he said. "The second we started sketching ideas it was definitely going to be Diagon Alley and Gringotts Bank."

USA Today:

ORLANDO — Harry Potter certainly knows how to cause a commotion. And this summer, the ongoing frenzy surrounding the fictional boy-wizard will hit a fever pitch. That's when Potterphiles from around the globe will flock to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida.

The star attraction, Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, is what fans are most curious about. Up until now, however, Universal has been mum on the details, including the opening date.

Last week, however, USA TODAY was the first to tour Gringotts and will also have an exclusive look at all of Diagon Alley — including a video with never-before-seen footage — May 16.

Here's the low down: The first thing you'll notice as you enter the grand lobby of Gringotts bank, which serves at the start of the queue, are the massive chandeliers just like the ones from the films.

The second wow is when you realize the goblins who run the bank are eyeing you down. Some are counting money, some are scribbling bank records and, occasionally, they make eye contact with you. The head goblin even asks if you are here to open a bank account.

"I get goosebumps every time I come in here," says Thierry Coup, Universal Creative's senior vice president.
And that's saying a lot. After all, Coup and his team have been toiling away on the weird and wonderful details of Diagon Alley even before The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Hogsmeade opened in June 2010. That's how long it takes to make sure every last nook and cranny is authentic to the series. And not only that, there are also new elements that were not originally part of the books or the movies.

After heading down a spiral staircase, guests pass by a series of vaults, including Harry's, which has a complex series of intricate locks. Next, bank security photos are taken and guests pass through a hallway flanked by bank offices on either side.

Here, they'll see shadows of the goblins at work behind closed doors and guests discover that they are "in the middle of the seventh book," says Coup. "You think you are here to open an account, but you are actually part of the story."

Translation for Potter newbies: This is where main characters Harry, Ron and Hermione break into Gringotts, which happens to be well guarded by trolls and a 60-foot Ukrainian Ironbelly dragon, to retrieve a magical object that will help defeat Lord Voldemort.

The queue is completely immersive just as it is in Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey in Hogsmeade.

As for the ride: "It's going to blow your mind," says Coup. "This ride is unlike anything we've done before."

In the multi-dimensional, multi-sensory attraction, guests will race through a labyrinth of underground vaults, encounter the villainous Death Eater, Bellatrix Lestrange, and come face to face with He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.

With 360-degree themed sets, 4K digital high-definition animation, state-of-the-art 3-D Infitec projection systems and live special effects, the newfangled ride is so different from existing theme-park rides, there's not really a name for it yet.

What we do know is that "it's thrilling and dynamic," says Coup. "It's the adventure of a lifetime."

Sind das tatsächliche Bilder des Zuges und der Innenthematisierung? Wenn ja, dann ist das das Beste, was ich je in einem Freizeitpark gesehen habe! Unfassbar!
