Tokyo Disney parks operator planning 300 bil. yen expansion:
Oriental Land Co., operator of Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, is planning to spend roughly 300 billion yen ($2.7 billion) to expand the two theme parks, sources with knowledge of the matter said Wednesday.
The company plans to start constructing the new areas - a 30 percent expansion of the existing parks - by 2025, one of the sources said.
To free up space, a parking lot adjacent to the parks within the sprawling Tokyo Disney Resort complex in Urayasu just outside of the capital will be turned multistory. The company is also looking to acquire additional land.
Oriental Land has entered negotiations on the new areas with Walt Disney Co., which licenses the rights to properties from Mickey Mouse to Star Wars, with the details to be ironed out by next May.
The investment, the company's largest since pouring 340 billion yen into the 2001 opening of DisneySea, is aimed at attracting older people and visitors from abroad to boost ticket sales that have stagnated amid Japan's falling birthrate and competition from rivals such as Osaka's Universal Studios Japan and other Disney parks in Shanghai and Hong Kong.
The expansion will also serve to ease overcrowding at the parks. The new areas may carry a Japanese theme to appeal to foreign tourists, a source said.
The company's consolidated sales have seen virtually no growth since fiscal 2013 and visitors to both parks combined in fiscal 2016 fell slightly from the previous year to 30 million.

Auch wenn das Geld wohl größtenteils von der Oriental Land Company kommt ist es echt erstaunlich wie momentan alle Disneyparks weltweit erweitert/renoviert werden.

Ich bin echt gespannt ob wir im April schon erste Pläne und Artworks zu sehen bekommen.

Zudem bin ich gespannt wo der Park entstehen soll, denn viel Fläche ist da rund um die beiden bestehenden Parks nicht wirklich frei, das Resort liegt ja direkt am Wasser... ob die da neues Land aufschütten?

Ich habe mal in einem Screenshot 2 mögliche Flächen markiert:

rot - da befindet sich ein altes Stadion und ein Hafenbereich
grün - da müsste man Ersatz für den Parkplatz und vor allem die Hotels schaffen

Vom 10. bis zum 12. Februar wird die japanische D23 Expo stattfinden, bei der man das 35 jährige bestehen des japanischen Disneyresorts und den 90. Geburtstag von Mickey Maus zelebrieren will. Das wäre doch der ideale Zeitpunkt und passende Rahmen um einen dritten Park anzukündigen

URAYASU, Chiba -- The operator of Tokyo Disney Resort (TDR) is entertaining the idea of creating a third amusement park centered around a "sky" theme, it has emerged.

Oriental Land Co., which oversees the famous Disney resort here, is thinking of adding to its existing land- and sea-based theme parks by creating attractions and areas relating to sky and space.

With potential names such as "DisneySky" already being put forward, Oriental Land is aiming to start construction in fiscal 2019, before opening the park three years later in fiscal 2022.

Disney amusement parks themed on "land" already exist in countries such as the United States, France and China, aside from Japan. However, Japan is the only country in the world to have a sea-based Disney theme park.

According to a source close to Oriental Land, the firm "wants to make a 'one of a kind' theme park, similar to Tokyo DisneySea," and is therefore working toward creating the first sky-related Disney resort in the world. The company is considering the introduction of attractions that would provide simulations of flying in a jet plane or through space.

In addition, Oriental Land is also thinking of making the park "elderly friendly" by installing moving walkways, and designing the park in such a way that it can be enjoyed without having to walk too far.

With TDR attracting roughly 30 million visitors each year, Oriental Land is faced with the challenge of how to ease crowding. With this in mind, there are plans to replace the current paper admission ticket system with an electronic verification system based on smartphones to improve the flow of people in and out of the park.

Moreover, Oriental Land is thinking of placing sensors in the park that can analyze the movement of visitors, as well as people's use of attractions, in order to work on crowd dispersal during the busiest times.
Currently, the company is looking into the proposal in detail, with the aim of making an announcement about the new park in late April or early May. It is also planning to convert the current parking lot into a multi-story one, and build the new theme park on vacant parts of the Urayasu site.

Der dritte Park ist anscheinend vom Tisch, stattdessen sollen die bestehenden Parks erweitert werden.

Oriental Land Co. on Sunday officially announced plans to expand Tokyo Disney Resort (TDR). The operator of TDR is planning to expand one of its two theme parks, either Tokyo Disneyland or Tokyo DisneySea. It ruled out the possibility of establishing a third theme park. It will announce more information about the plan, such as new attractions and when the expansion will be complete, as soon as the details are confirmed.

“We would like to create a Tokyo Disney Resort that fulfills new dreams. Currently, we are planning the park’s expansion,” Oriental Land Chairman Toshio Kagami said at a ceremony commemorating the 35th anniversary of the opening of Tokyo Disneyland on Sunday.

Die Entwicklung des Resorts bleibt also weiterhin spannend, auch wenn es keinen dritten Park geben wird. Mal sehen was da in den nächsten Monaten angekündigt wird!

Tokyo Disney Resort kündigt massive Erweiterung für 2022 an

Für viele Fans der weltweiten Disneyparks ist es ohnehin ein Must-do einmal, oder besser mehrmals, das Resort in Tokyo zu besuchen. Die erste Welt von Mickey Mouse und Co. außerhalb der USA blickt nicht nur auf über 30 Jahre klassischen Themenparkspaß zurück, sondern kann auch mit einigen einzigartigen Fahrgeschäften auftrumpfen, die es sonst nirgendwo gibt. Diesen Weg geht man weiter und somit gab man heute bekannt, dass es 2022 einen neuen Themenbereich im zweiten Park "Disney Sea" geben wird.

Die Investitionssumme wird 4 neue Attraktionen, 1 neues Hotel und weitere Investitionen in die benötigte Infrastruktur beinhalten. Beim Thema legt man sich auf das Thema Fantasy fest. In diesem Sinne ist es eine Art modernes Fantasyland aus den klassichen Disneyparks. Allerdings wird das Hauptaugenmerk auf neue Filme wie Rapunzel, (natürlich) Frozen und Pixie Hollow (Fee'n Geschichten/ Ableger von Peter Pan) gelegt.

Der größte Hingucker wird ein Schloß im "Frozen"-Stil und der bekannte Eisberg sein. Passend dazu soll es eine Wasserattraktion geben. Ob es sich dabei um ein ähnliches Fahrgeschäft wie das in EPCOT/ Orlando handelt, steht nicht fest.
Weiter geht es durch die Welt von Rapunzel. Es gibt Hinweise darauf, dass es eine Attraktion mit vielen Lichteffekten wird. Man erlebt eine Abenteuerreise, die den Weg zum Laternenfest simuliert.
In Neverland, der Welt von Peter Pan und Co. wird man ebenfalls moderne Abenteuer erleben. Es gibt Hinweise auf 3-D Techniken. Gut vorstellbar, dass ein ähnliches Fahrsystem wie das der "Pirates of the Carribean" in Shanghai zum Einsatz kommt.
Alle 3 Bereiche erhalten zudem passende Restaurants und Shops.

Das neue Hotel wird zudem 475 Zimmer bieten und einen spektakulären Panorama Blick über den neuen Port zulassen.

Zudem wurde der Name des neuen Themenbereich (Fantasy Springs) veröffentlicht

Insgesamt werden über 2 Milliarden Euro (250 Milliarden Yen) investiert

Die Eröffnung ist für das „Fiskaljahr 2022“ angekündigt, das lt. Sternchenhinweis in der Offiziellen Pressemitteilung (siehe Marios Link) vom 01.04.2022 bis zum 31.03.2023 läuft. Fantasy Springs könnte also auch erst 2023 seine Tore öffnen.

Tokyo DisneySea Large-Scale Expansion Project
Start of Operations Timing Revised

URAYASU, CHIBA—Oriental Land Co., Ltd.announced that scheduled timing for the start of operations of Fantasy Springs at Tokyo DisneySea®Park has been revised.

Based on further study and review, the expansion project of this eighth Tokyo DisneySea themed port will be fully in operation in fiscal year 2023. There is no revision of other items that have been announced to date.

Note: The scheduled timing of the start of operations for the large-scale expansion project was announced as fiscal year 2022 in the press release of June 14, 2018. The Oriental Land Co., Ltd. fiscal year startson April 1 and ends on March 31.
